As families grow and needs change you will often find there is just simply not enough space. If you are happy with where you live, then often it is better to consider an extension to your current house rather than the expense and upheaval of shifting house.

Extensions can be as simple as adding another couple of metres to your lounge, through to adding entire rooms. Most extensions do require a building consent so it’s best to plan in advance and allow 6 weeks for the consent process.

Custom Renovations will advise on what is required and assist you with the design and planning stages, putting you in touch with an Architect and whoever else is required for the consent. The free consultation and quotation service will give you an understanding of costs and timelines.

Before & during build:

This extension was a design and build. The house was originally built in the late 1960’s. The owners wanted to create a new space for their daughter and grand-daughter. The requirements were clear from the outset:

A self contained space, but with access from the main house providing privacy for all, but a space that was not
totally separate.

Custom Renovations met with the clients, and discussed these requirements and how we could best make them work. The section meant that we had to design a split level extension containing a second bathroom and toilet, two bedrooms, a living space and a kitchenette. This would seem to be a pretty tall order given the available space behind the existing house, and the client’s budget.

After completion:

Following the design phase, Custom Renovations took care of the drawings and the building consent application. The work took several months to complete, and the end result was a 50 square metre extension that met all the client’s requirements, and more importantly, their budget.  View their testimonial here.
